IRCC Unveils New Temporary Policy for Hong Kong PR Applicants, Allowing Stay in Canada During Processing
Published on: May 9, 2024
IRCC has rolled out a fresh temporary policy aimed at aiding PR hopefuls from Hong Kong. This initiative allows them to stay in Canada while their applications are under review.
Effective from May 27th, 2024, this policy enables residents of Hong Kong who applied under the 2021 pathway to extend their status and seek an open work permit. Specifically, individuals who applied under Stream A or Stream B of the 2021 policy and held a work or study permit within the three years preceding their PR application are eligible. This temporary measure will remain in effect for five years, providing applicants the opportunity to remain in Canada during the processing period. It's underscored that individuals are responsible for keeping track of and renewing their temporary status. Additionally, those who have lost status within 90 days before applying for an open work permit can simultaneously seek status restoration. However, applications won't be considered if an individual has been out of status for over 90 days before applying under this policy.
