Spouses and common-law partners of Canadians or Permanent Residents can get an open work permit while their PR application is being processed. They can work for any employer of their choice in Canada so they can financially support themselves and their family during the immigration application process.
Eligibility
The following requirements must be satisfied before an open work permit can be granted:
The applicant must have a valid temporary resident status ,
must have submitted an application for permanent residence under the Spousal/Common-Law Partner Program
both the applicant and the sponsor must meet all eligibility requirements for spousal or common-law partner sponsorship.
