The ministerial instructions underwent revisions on June 16, 2024, primarily to
to reduce the work experience requirement from 12 months to 6 months
for the Gaining experience category, to
accept work experience gained outside of Canada
accept work experience gained up to 36 months before the application is made, as well as work experience gained between the period of application submission and the date that the applicant demonstrates having acquired the work experience
clarify that applicants have only one opportunity to submit their work experience to IRCC for a decision on their permanent residence application
These changes affect applications that are currently awaiting processing. Updates to the instructions are underway to incorporate these modifications, accompanied by a banner across several pages summarizing the revisions. Further updates will be released promptly. Meanwhile, preliminary details have been included in the section concerning applicants gaining experience who submit their work history prior to the issuance of an occupation-restricted open work permit by IRCC.
