New Public Policy Eases Work Permit Extension Process for Provincial Nominee Program Candidates
Published on: Aug. 30, 2024
A new temporary public policy has been introduced to help foreign nationals who are candidates for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) with their work permits. This policy aims to make it easier for eligible individuals to continue working while their PNP application is being processed.
Under this policy, foreign nationals who meet specific criteria can apply for an open work permit. Here's how it works:
Current Work Permit Holders:
Must have a valid work permit.
Must have applied for a new work permit.
Need to provide:
A support letter from the provincial or territorial authority where they live. This letter should confirm that the candidate is in an Expression of Interest pool or is part of the application process for the PNP.
A letter from their current employer.
Expired Work Permits:
If the work permit expired on or after May 7, 2024.
Must have applied for a new work permit and either an extension of their temporary resident status or restoration of their status.
Need to provide:
A support letter from the provincial or territorial authority confirming their status in the PNP process.
A letter from their current employer.
Pending Applications:
If the foreign national was authorized to work under specific regulations on May 7, 2024, and their permit extension is pending or approved.
Must have applied for a new work permit and an extension or restoration of their temporary resident status.
Need to provide:
A support letter from the provincial or territorial authority confirming their PNP process status.
A letter from their current employer.
This policy is designed to streamline the process for those in the PNP and ensure they can continue working while their application is being reviewed. It aims to provide stability and support to those contributing to the Canadian workforce.
