Common pathways for Canadian immigration for International students

Most foreign students who finish their studies in Canada then apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit. International students can work for any business and in any job of their choice thanks to the PGWP, which grants them an open work permit. Your studies in Canada will last for the same amount of time as the PGWP, up to a maximum of three years. Gaining Canadian work experience will help you become a more competitive applicant for Canadian immigration, which is one of the PGWP's key advantages.

Next, look into the various immigration routes to Canada to determine which ones could be best for you. Conducting this study as early as feasible can help you make sure you take the necessary actions to be eligible for these alternatives and improve the strength of your candidature. Although each PR road has its own requirements, generally speaking, your assessment will be based on your degree of education, work experience, and English and/or French fluency. Additionally, you might be in a better position if you have an acceptable work offer and are connected to the province or territory where you now reside.

More on Pathway to Permanent Residency

Express Entry

International students looking to pursue PR may find the CEC to be a good option if they have at least one year of Canadian job experience. You could also want to take the FSWP into consideration if you already have at least a year of professional job experience from outside the U.S.

You must make sure you meet the requirements of at least one of these three programmes in order to apply for immigration via Express Entry. After that, you can upload a profile to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's website. The top scorers are invited to submit an application for permanent residency. Candidates are given scores using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) based on human capital standards like age, education, language proficiency, and job history, among other things.

Candidates who have studied or worked in Canada will receive extra points. Therefore, international students are well-positioned to compete under Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates with the highest CRS scores receive invitations to apply for permanent residence every two weeks from IRCC. Those who receive invitations have 60 days to complete and submit their applications for permanent residency to IRCC.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

For international students, the Provincial Nominee Program  is another well-liked PR route. The PNP is run by almost every province and territory in Canada. For skilled employees who desire to settle permanently in a certain province or territory, the PNP provides an option. Candidates who have studied and worked in Canada are rewarded in many PNP streams. Additionally, there are streams that appeal exclusively to students from other countries. The CanadaVisa PNP Finder can be used to find out additional information.

NOC/TEER skill level

Each programme for the immigration of skilled workers from Canada has specific requirements about the kind of skills and work experience you must possess to be eligible for that programme. The National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill level that correlates with the skilled worker immigration programmes you are interested in should be checked in advance as you attempt to gain Canadian work experience after completing your schooling. In general, the majority of skilled worker streams demand that you have "high-skilled" professional expertise. However, there are "skilled worker" channels at the federal and provincial levels that make it possible for people with "intermediate" or "lower" skilled work experience to be qualified to apply for permanent residence.
